The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program at North Central Michigan College provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide basic care to patients in various healthcare settings. This comprehensive program typically lasts several weeks, combining classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory practice and clinical experience. Students will learn how to assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and eating, as well as how to take vital signs, assist with mobility, and provide emotional support. Emphasis will be placed on infection control, patient safety, and effective communication techniques. Upon successful completion of the program and passing the Michigan Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Program (NACEP) certification exam, graduates will be eligible to work as CNAs in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and home healthcare agencies. Furthermore, the CNA certification can serve as a valuable foundation for those pursuing further education and careers in nursing or other healthcare professions.
